Best diamond shapes and settings for smaller hands or short fingers
- Round, oval, and pear-cut diamonds are best
Any diamond with an elongated shape is ideal to make the hand appear longer and slender, while soft edges compliment small hands nicely.

- Stay away from square-shaped diamonds
Princess cut diamonds or radiant diamonds in a square shape (ratio between 1.00 and 1.05) tend to make small hands appear even smaller than they are.
- Small diamonds are fine!
The good news is that “small” carat weight diamonds will look good on smaller hands. A 0.50 ct diamond should look “big enough”.
- Thin, delicate settings are best
Thin, delicate engagement rings complement small hands. Settings that are too wide or too busy can look weird on small hands.

- Stay away from pear cut diamonds
Pear cut diamonds are too “soft” and slender at the tip, making the fingers look almost “naked” and wider than they are.
- Try to go for bigger and wider diamonds
Having wide fingers means you can pull off bigger rings. Though this might sound scary - you might have to go for a bigger diamond (i.e. a more expensive one!), remember that radiant or emerald cut diamonds are cheaper than rounds.

- Three-stone rings flatter wide fingers
Any engagement ring with an oval, radiant, or emerald-cut diamond will look great! If you prefer to go for a round, go with three stone rings! They are ideal as they will cover the entire width of the finger, which will make fingers appear more slender than they are.

- Any diamond shape looks great
Those with long, thin fingers are lucky. Any stone will look great.
- Try to go for bigger diamonds
Short and skinny hands do not need big diamonds. But long hands do as larger diamonds will be more proportional to the hand.

Long fingers can benefit from statement ring settings or split shanks which will not overpower the hand.

Square hands need to be softened. Any elongated shape with soft corners will obtain such a result.
